Scale of 1-10

This is going to be my ongoing “like or dislike” of China each Friday with a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best.

  • Week 1, 9/19/15 – 9/25/15 —-> 10
    • Everything is so new!  New food, new place, new people, new adventure, great weather and the boys will be in school.
  • Week 2, 9/26/15 – 10/2/15 —> 4
    •  My father died, can’t leave for my dad’s funeral, rainy, one bad pollution day, bought boys a scooter, fell in love with pedestrian street (otherwise, this week would have been a 1)
  • Week 3, 10/3/15 – 10/9/15 —> 9
    • Much better this week.  Talked a lot to family, explored Shanghai on foot, perfect weather, found great restaurants
  • Week 4, 10/10/15 – 10/16/15 —> 10
    • Bought scooters for ourselves (blog coming soon on that), rode them while the boys were in school, met more people, tried awesome restaurants, visited Yuyuan gardens, shock of living here wore off, kids eating extremely well. Maybe Lolo is looking after us!
  • Week 5, 10/17/15 – 10/23/15 —> 9
    • Went for a ride with the boys on the scooters, started Chinese classes, moved into the new apartment, met an awesome mom, went on a field trip to the zoo with C, left my favorite pedestrian street
  • Week 6, 10/24/15 – 10/30/15 —> 7
    • Went to a Shanghai mama festival, shopped for house supplies at IKEA, homesick this week
  • Week 7, 10/31/15 – 11/6/15 —> 5
    • Rainy week, had my first Chinese breakfast, L left for the US, Ayi started, gymnastics for the boys, Chinese class for C, missed L
  • Week 8, 11/7/15 – 11/13/15 —> 6
    • Went shopping at Yuyuan Gardens, L still gone, used Chinese for the first time when buying fruit, great weather
  • Week 9, 11/14/15 – 11/20/15 —> 8
    • L is home!!! and so much rain this week
  • Week 10, 11/21/15 – 11/27/15 —> 8
    • Busy week, play dates, Christmas bazaars, Thanksgiving, lunch dates and going to IAPM mall
  • Week 11, 11/28/15 – 12/4/15 —> 8
    • Play date with O, Christmas bazaar at GVV, shopping, lunch dates, breakfast dates, viewed the possibility of teaching English at a local school, cold!
  • Week 12, 12/5/15 – 12/11/15 —> 6
    • X was sick for 4 days, Christmas party at the boys’ school, went to Xintiandi with R and ate good Shanghainese food, rainy week
  • Week 13, 12/12/15 – 12/18/15 —> 10
    • Got all our things from the US
  • Week 14, 12/19/15 – 12/25/15 —> 10
    • Back in the good ol’ US of A
  • Week 15, 12/26/15 – 1/1/16 —> 10
    • Back in the good ol’ US of A
  • Week 16, 1/2/16 – 1/8/16 —> 6
    • Back in Shanghai, jetlagged, Lola flew back with us, rainy
  • Week 17, 1/9/16 – 1/15/16 —> 8
    • C turned 5!!, showed Lola around Shanghai (IAPM, pearl market, malls), preparing for C’s party, pollution was bad
  • Week 18, 1/16/16 – 1/22/16 —> 9
    • C had his birthday party!, play dates galore, shopping dates, lunch dates and started kickboxing, rainy week
  • Week 19, 1/23/16 – 1/29/16 —> 2
    • Record cold weather in Shanghai = FREEZING (19 deg F), snow (very little) Saturday morning, our pipes froze from Sunday to Tuesday = NO water, stayed at the hotel down the block for two nights, had room service, L went on a business trip M-F
  • Week 20, 1/30/16 – 2/5/16 —> 7
    • On our way to Bangkok and boys caught the stomach bug (24 hour bug)
  • Week 21, 2/6/16 – 2/12/16 —> 10
    • On our way to Phuket – very relaxing
  • Week 22, 2/13/16 – 2/19/16 —> 6
    • My mom went home and recuperating from vacation – we were sick (parents – not kids)
  • Week 23, 2/20/16 – 2/26/16 —> 5
    • Still sick and had an ear infection, worked out and thought I was going to die, first time at the FFC (Former French Concession), beautiful weather, been in a slump
  • Week 24, 2/27/16 – 3/4/16 —> 9
    • Tried out Sichuan Citizen, kids went bike riding, beautiful weather, ate at Gracie’s for ice cream, had my first tennis lesson, C is gung ho with kung fu!
  • Week 25, 3/5/16 – 3/11/16 —> 8
    • Beautiful weather, X was sick, book week at school, lunch dates, Sam’s birthday, walked a lot, finished Downton Abbey
  • Week 26, 3/12/16 – 3/18/16 —> TBD
